MC Assembly® Manages Rapid Data Growth with Actifio Copy Data Storage

Leading Contract Manufacturer Saves 40% on Data Storage Costs While Reducing Data Recovery from Days to Minutes

WALTHAM, Mass. – April 9, 2013 – Actifio™, the radically simple copy data management company, today announced that its Copy Data Storage platform has been successfully implemented by MC Assembly, a leader in the contract manufacturing industry, for backup, disaster recovery and test and development across their four locations.

MC Assembly is a 29 year old, US-based contract manufacturing company with 1,800 employees.  The company builds a range of products, some of which are life-sustaining for its medical diagnostic customer(s). In doing so, the company has realized tremendous data growth across it’s three locations in Florida, Massachusetts, Mexico and their disaster recovery site in Washington State.

With one petabyte of data moving between its facilities from several hundred servers, MC Assembly was experiencing the financial and operational strain of rapid data growth, but had a legal obligation to maintain its records for seven-to-ten years.  It engaged with Actifio to make its data recoverable within minutes from physical disaster or corruption, accessible and virtualized—to allow for rapid data growth while containing costs.

“Before Actifio, we were performing old fashioned backups, which were tedious and horrendous to recover from. Data recovery was a five step process and would take couple of days, or longer,” said Daniel Acosta, enterprise architect, MC Assembly. “It was the way we lived, but it was not acceptable.  Now, we are at a place with Actifio where I don’t lose sleep. If a SQL Database or even subdirectories of files are accidentally deleted, we can have it back in several clicks of the mouse—

With Actifio, MC Assembly’s production environment is backed up and prepped for disaster recovery at the same time, as part of an automated process. Actifio also takes rolling snapshots every couple of hours. MC Assembly no longer has to buy tiered storage to maintain snapshots and worry about data loss through accidental deletion or backup corruption.

“We were back up and running within six minutes after a server died and we experienced complete data loss. I no longer have to worry about recovering data, or how long it will take. I can now tell our employees that their data will be back in a few minutes, and for customers, after a one minute server reboot,” continued Acosta. “If someone deletes something accidentally, I can pull a snapshot from a previous point in time and make it a server within minutes. This software is so intuitive that a first year technician could run it.”

Actifio is radically simple copy data storage.  By virtualizing the storage and management of data, Actifio can replace any or all of the siloed data protection and availability storage applications a company might be using, with a single system that’s purpose-built to manage copy data.  PAS creates a single, perfect copy of production data and maintains changes to that master copy in a way that gives users a simple application running in a single window to recover anything, from any time, instantly.  Doing so delivers recovery times in minutes instead of hours, even for large scale application data sets, while slashing total cost of ownership by as much as 90 percent versus the traditional model.

“Large, distributed enterprises like MC Assembly represent the resurgence of domestic manufacturing, who using smart technologies to compete on a global-scale,” said Ash Ashutosh, Actifio founder and CEO.  “We’re excited to be apart of the team’s mission to not only protect their data but to also enable their business to thrive using our Copy Data Storage system. “
